greenhaven crownDo you have a damaged or infected tooth? When a tooth become broken or cracked, or develops serious decay or an infection, we will recommend a restoration. A dental crown covers the visible portion of the tooth, returning the tooth to full function and health. We use a variety of materials to create our restorations. Which type of crown do you need?

Common Questions About Dental Crowns

Question: When will you recommend a gold restoration?

Answer: Did you know that the molars in the back of your mouth undergo more pressure than front facing teeth? We often place gold restorations here because they are the strongest option available. They can withstand powerful bite forces and pressure, lasting for decades.

Question: Are ceramic ones natural looking?

Answer: Yes. We use these for the front facing teeth because they are both durable and esthetically pleasing. Ceramic is stain-resistant and can offer the same translucent appearance as tooth enamel. As a result, this option can blend seamlessly with your smile.

Question: What is a PFM crown?

Answer: If you still want a lifelike appearance, but your tooth must receive a more powerful restoration, we suggest PFM, or porcelain-fused-to-metal. They are often a bit more cost-effective than zirconia.

Question: When do you recommend zirconia?

Answer: A zirconia crown looks completely natural but can withstand more powerful bite forces than a traditional ceramic restoration. However, due to their special composition and lifelike nature they are often more expensive than other options.
