Frequently Asked Questions from Patients

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes! We are always happy to welcome new patients of all ages to our office.

I hate going to the dentist. Can you help me ease my anxiety?

We offer highly customizable nitrous oxide (laughing gas), which is safe for patients of all ages and can help you relax and remain calm during your appointment.

How old should my child be before the first dental visit?

Children can have their first exam around the age of 1 to 1 1/2 years old. You can hold your child in your lap as the dental team does the exam and addresses any concerns you may have. We’ll also review proper ways to care for your child’s teeth. If the child is cooperative, a fluoride varnish may be applied to the teeth. The age when a child can have the first dental cleaning varies widely. Children as young as two years old may cooperate well, while others may have to wait until they are closer to 3 or 4 years old. You can also bring your child with you to your appointment to help ease the transition so your child knows what to expect during their own dental visit and cleaning.

Why should I consider fluoride for my child?

Children of all ages can often benefit from a fluoride varnish. It mineralizes the tooth enamel, which can grow weak due to attacks from harmful oral bacteria. The varnish is especially beneficial to children who are at an increased risk of cavity development, or who are undergoing orthodontic treatment with braces.

I’m old – should I still visit my dentist regularly?

Yes. Plaque continues to build up regardless of age, and brushing and flossing it off consistently can become more difficult as you grow older. Therefore, maintaining a regular schedule of dental checkups and cleanings is always vital to keeping your smile clean and healthy.
