q&arainbowHow thoroughly familiar are you with protecting your oral health through prevention? Are you certain about how to best use preventive care to maintain a healthy smile? Fortunately, once you get the basics down, you will know exactly what to do when it comes to your home care and keeping up with professional preventive visits. You will also understand why you’re putting in the time and effort. To get the ball rolling, we invite you to look over a Q&A session full of helpful introductory advice.

Q&A: Prevention

Question: How often am I supposed to come to see you for preventive care visits? Is this very important?

Answer: You should call us and schedule visits to see us every six months. Your preventive visits are extremely important. Seeing us twice a year ensures that your smile remains free of plaque and tartar buildup. It also gives us the opportunity to suggest necessary treatments for problems right away (instead of allowing an issue to flourish).

Question: What are the guidelines for my preventive care at home?

Answer: Your home care will be the same every single day. Remaining consistent is the key factor in your success. Follow these steps:

  • Brush your teeth in the morning with a soft-bristle toothbrush on which you have applied nonabrasive toothpaste. Do the same again before bed.
  • Floss your smile at least once each day.

Question: Is preventive care primarily surface level? Or will you take a very detailed look at my oral health?

Answer: In addition to visually inspecting the surface of your smile, we will also collect a deep, detailed, precise view of your oral cavity with the use of digital X-rays. Prevention seeks to protect your entire oral system, including your teeth, gums, and jaws.
