Answer Key

  1. True. When we enter our late teens and early 20s, many of us will have wisdom teeth erupt. When these extra molars erupt serious issues can develop, including misalignment, damaged teeth, infection, or impaction, which occurs when the teeth can only partially erupt. Fortunately, we can use extraction to remove them before they arrive.
  2. True. If a tooth becomes infected, then a root canal procedure is necessary. However, if treatment is delayed then the tooth may die and require extraction to prevent the spread of infection.
  3. True. We administer a local anesthetic prior to treatment to help patients remain comfortable during the extraction. We will also provide detailed aftercare instructions.
  4. True. Wisdom teeth don’t need to be replaced, but if you lose a tooth to damage or infection then we can use a prosthetic to restore your smile to full function and appearance. If you have any questions about dental extractions, then please contact our office today.
