Do You Have Anxiety?
Dental anxiety impacts many people in our country, in fact some studies show the number to be as high as 15%. The cause could be lack of experience visiting the dentist, or due to a poor past experience. At our office, we know the value of routine dental care and a healthy smile, and we want to make sure your fears don’t stand between you and a better smile. We understand your anxiety is real, and we would love to talk to you about your concerns, discuss your procedures in detail, and even discuss solutions to make undergoing treatment for comfortable for you.
Ensuring Your Comfort
Prior to procedures such as fillings or crown placement, our team always administers a local anesthetic to ensure you feel comfortable. However, for more complex procedures, or to help those with severe anxiety undergo minor ones, we may offer sedation. Before prescribing a calming solution, we will look at your medical history and take other factors into account. The most common form we prescribe is nitrous oxide, also known as a laughing gas, which is safe even for children.
Nitrous Oxide
We refer to nitrous oxide as laughing gas because the sedation cause a euphoric feeling, leaving the patient calm, conscious, and able to respond to the dentist if necessary. The effects wear off quickly, in fact, most people can drive themselves home or return to work or school. We start by mixing the gas with oxygen and then administering it through a mask that is worn over your nose. You inhale the nitrous oxide, and enjoy a very relaxed feeing. The effects then wear off quickly due to their mild impact. If you have any questions about the administration of the calming solution, or if you would like to schedule a consultation to talk about your anxiety and any retreatments you may need, then contact our team today. You also have a chance to use any remaining dental insurance benefits for 2020 before they expire at the end of December!
